TOKYO — The U.S. government has not paid the Japanese government rent for land where the U.S. Embassy is built since 1998, according to a document the cabinet adopted Friday. The Japanese government has been asking the U.S. government to pay the rent.
The document noted that the British Embassy, also located in central Tokyo, is paying 35 million yen annually for about 35,000 sq meters of state-owned land.
